Growing with Grace - January 2007
Power That Never Fails
I was washing our dinner dishes when darkness suddenly enveloped me. Oh no, not again, I thought. I dried my hands and groped along the kitchen counter, searching for matches and candles. This is the fourth power outage in as many days. How long before it returns this time?
It was the week prior to Christmas, and windstorms were sweeping through our area. The gales toppled fir trees, knocked out electricity, and threw a kink into my comfortable and ordered lifestyle. Losing power meant not having my morning coffee, a hot shower, or email access (“I’d like some cheese with my whine!”). It also left me unable to prepare for the holiday – I couldn’t vacuum, cook, wash clothes, type our family newsletter, or bake Christmas goodies. In the midst of my “company’s-coming-and-I-won’t-be-ready-for-them” angst, however, I experienced an “aha!” moment: God’s power never fails.
A simple nugget of truth? Yes. And one that’s fast becoming my favorite. You see, I’m in the middle of planning a missions trip to India. This involves fund-raising, organizing travel details, and preparing to speak through translators to women of another culture. On Easter Sunday, I’ll be addressing a congregation of Dalits in an Indian slum.
My knees sometimes knock at the enormity of the task that lies ahead. In all honesty, my life would be simplified without this trip, but if God has brought this opportunity to me (and I believe He has), then moving ahead is my only option. I choose to embrace it not because I’m adequate, but because God is.
When worry sneaks in, I counter it with the truth about God’s power: “How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!” (Psalm 147:5) I pray often, “Your unfailing power is greater than the task ahead. Thank You for being my strength.” I recall past challenges and the ways in which God proved His power in their midst. I remember that His Word says He never changes and His power never fails. And I find peace.
What challenges are you facing in 2007? A troubled marriage? A teenage child who’s making poor choices? Financial uncertainty? A move to a new city? A career change? Whatever those challenges are, they may loom like a towering Goliath, but don’t let them intimidate you. Remember that God is on your side and find courage in this simple nugget of life-changing truth: His power never fails.

I have also found that all my CPs enjoy being misted several times a day with R/O water. I also use super thrive for my CPs although I dont know if it is doing anything because I have never not used it on them. I grow all my CPs indoors in a north facing window with quite a bit of artificial lighting as well.
Happy growing
