This is the classic book made into an animated movie. I understand why they wanted to animate it instead of using real people - kind of...
The reasoning used to be, well they can\'t do all the things with people that they can do with cartoons. Well - you know, they probably can. So they took Tom Hanks and made him into an animated character.
A few reviews I read BEFORE I went to see it made me think - YIKES! Some said all you needed were a few monsters, and it would be like \"night of the living dead\" - Think about all those Barbie movies/DVDs, and how wierd their eyes look. That\'s what the Polar Express is all about. Woe. Maybe it\'s because it was in my mind the whole time, but it does wear on you after a while. Plus you KNOW Tom Hanks familiar voice, and you look and it LOOKS like him, but it\'s this creepy animated character.
There were parts of the film where it is wonderful, what they can do with the animation and combining that with some of the wonderful music.
There are other parts you wish they would have left out. Again, all I\'ll say is Aerosmith. If you \'ve seen it, you\'ll know what I mean. If not, when you do you\'ll understand. I have nothing against them, it was just not necessary in my opinion.
This was a fun one to see IN the theater. But it will be great when it is released on video/DVD also.
