The Lord's Supper

Recommended Posts

I am a strict Missourri Lutheran (I probally just mispelled it) but they believe that when you partake in the holy communion, that the blood of Jesus and body of Jesus is present in the wafer and the wine. Ok this is where I get confused. Now are we like the canibals that eat people? You know like Jeffrey Dahlmer? What exactly do they mean when there is the blood and body of Jesus?

When Jesus said this is my flesh and this is my blood, He gave the deciples bread and wine, not meat, and certainly not part of Himself. I believe the communion, both then and now is symbolic. It's like when someone tries to explain about a car accident in court. They draw a line on a board and say "This is Main Street." Well, those in the courtroom understand that that is not Main Street at all, but a line drawn on a chalk board to explain something about the accident.

Jesus is in me continually, so I don't believe I need to occasionally ingest Him in wafer form. This is the teaching of most Catholic and reformists denominations such as Luthern though. Anyhow, that's my belief on the subject.

I love the way you explained that TwinCrier. You pretty much expressed my understanding of Christ's intention with the command to do this in rememberance of Him.
